Our Story
Clara & Monroe New York began long before the first collection was ever designed.
It began with a dream.
As a young woman, I always believed that clothing could be more than something you wear. It could carry confidence. It could tell a story. It could hold memories. I wanted to build a brand rooted in timeless elegance — pieces that felt intentional, refined, and meaningful.
But more than anything, I wanted to build something lasting.
Something I could one day pass on.
When my daughter Monroe was born, everything changed. My ambition became clearer. My purpose became deeper. And when I finally gathered the courage to start my own brand, I knew exactly what it would be called.
Clara & Monroe.
Her name was never just part of the brand.
She was the reason for it.
In the early days, the showroom was small. The racks were modest. Every order was packed by hand. Monroe would sit in the corner with sketchbooks while I worked with clients. She watched fittings, listened to conversations about fabrics and tailoring, and grew up surrounded by the quiet rhythm of building something from nothing.
She saw the late nights.
She saw the doubts.
She saw the breakthroughs.
While I was building a business, she was absorbing a vision.
As the years passed, Clara & Monroe New York grew. Our collections evolved. Our customers became a community. What began as a small dream slowly transformed into a brand recognized for its understated elegance and thoughtful design.
And Monroe grew with it.
She didn’t just grow up around the brand — she grew into it. As a teenager, she began helping in the store. In her early twenties, she became deeply involved in design conversations. She challenged my ideas. She introduced new perspectives. She understood the heritage of the brand, but she also saw where it could go next.
I began to realize something powerful:
The dream I once imagined for her was becoming her own.
Now, at 28, Monroe is ready.
Ready to lead.
Ready to evolve the brand.
Ready to carry Clara & Monroe New York into a new generation.
She brings a fresh, modern vision — refined silhouettes, elevated essentials, and a contemporary perspective — while honoring the craftsmanship and elegance that built our foundation.
For me, this moment is both emotional and deeply fulfilling.
After years of devotion, I am stepping into retirement. My final collection represents the closing of a chapter that has shaped my life. Every design holds a memory. Every piece carries a part of my journey.
As these final pieces find their homes, I am not saying goodbye to the dream.
I am watching it continue.
What began as a mother’s vision has become a legacy passed forward.
Clara & Monroe New York is not ending.
It is evolving.
And this is the beginning of a new era.
With love,
Clara
